Executive Board Meeting at Sodankylä

The EISCAT_3D Executive Board held its third physical meeting at the Sodankylä Geophysical Observatory (SGO) on Wednesday and Thursday of this week (31.8.-1.9.2011). The EB reviewed the current situation of the entire project, particularly concentrating on those work packages in which milestones and deliverables have been delayed, or where the spending profile is off track. This is an important period for the project, with meetings of the General Assembly and the Technical Advisory Committee coming up, and the first of our annual “All Hands” meetings due to be held in Kiruna 11th to 13th October 2011. Many of our discussions focused on how to prepare the ground for these forthcoming meetings, and how to bolster the effort on the engineering side of the project in the EISCAT Headquarters at Kiruna.

The picture shows the Executive Board members and invited experts in the Sodankylä meeting. From left: Henrik Andersson, Anders Tjulin and Esa Turunen (all EISCAT HQ), Markku Lehtinen and Thomas Ulich (SGO), Ian McCrea (RAL), Ingrid Mann (EISCAT HQ), and Jonny Johansson (Luleå Technical University).

Besides quarterly physical meetings, the Executive Board discusses the EISCAT_3D Preparatory Phase project in a telephone conference every Friday at 13:00 CET. The next physical meeting will take place 9th-10th November 2011 at Luleå Technical University.
